This made for an interesting review…. The detailed automation work often required to help get a vocal (sung or dialog) to sit perfectly within a mix can be rewarding but also incredibly time-consuming. There have been plugin solutions to help with this process for some time (Wave’s Vocal Rider, for example), but NoiseWorks Audio provided an impressive new option when they released DynAssist a year or so ago.
That same concept has now been expanded upon with VoiceAssist. Available in three versions to give potential users some choice over which features they want access to, VoiceAssist taking vocal levelling to… well, something of a new level…. but you also get some very sophisticated tools for vocal cleaning and enhancement. It’s a powerful package and capable considerably speeding upon the routine vocal prep tasks required pre-mixing.
