Steinberg know a thing or two about stem separation via their SpectraLayers software which is up there with the best options currently available. However, for Artist/Pro users, they have also provided a stripped down version of that technology with SpectraLayers ONE/GO, bundled as part of the Pro/Artist Cubase package. Yes, it only allowed you to separate a mix into two stems – vocals and ‘everything else’ – but, that still can help with plenty of use cases.
However, that support took a step up for Cubase 15 Pro users as Steinberg integrated stem separation directly into the Cubase feature set. What’s more, you now get four stems – vocals, drums, bass and ‘other’ – so the range of potential applications are somewhat broader.
So, is this new functionality in Cubase Pro worth exploring for rebalancing, remixing or resampling tasks? You can find out by reading the full workshop/tutorial article that explores the new functionality in Sound On Sound here….
