Celemony will be a familiar name to many within the music technology world for their groundbreaking Melodyne pitch/timing correction tool. However, their latest product takes some of that same underlying technology and applies it within a totally different context; Tonalic gives you a set of virtual session musicians available directly within your DAW.
There is no AI here; just some very clever audio processing, an impressive collection of A-list session musicians and a brilliantly conceived UI that makes Tonalic an absolute breeze to use. There are concepts here that are very familiar (for example, the virtual performer elements within products such as Toontrack’s EZbass or EZkeys) but also something new in the way those concepts are realised.
Anyway, the bottom line is that it can produce some truly fabulous sounds musical performances. Right now, that is focussed of guitars, bass, drums, percussion and a compact selection of other string instruments. It will be interesting to see the direction Celemony take this…..
