I’ve enthused about vocal synthesis options both here and within SOS on a number of occasions over the last couple of years. It’s a technology that has now reached a maturity and sophistication that make it genuinely viable as a virtual instrument options in all sorts of real-world use cases….
Yamaha – Steinberg’s parent company – have a history in this area with their Vocaloid software and, while Dreamtonics’ SynthV probably heads the game currently, it would appear that Yamaha can see that it’s a technology that’s finally coming to the fore…. Available as a beta version, they have therefore slipped a new virtual vocal synthesis instrument – Omnivocal – into Cubase 15.
It’s early days – hence the beta status – but there is plenty of promise here and, as a tool for quickly sketching out vocal line ideas, Omnivocal’s compact feature set makes for a simple workflow. Anyway, check out my own first exploration of Omnivocal in the Cubase workshop article here….
