Mastering is now a stage of the music production process that most people are aware of, even if they are less than confident in their own abilities to do it. From a software-based perspective, the product that probably did the most to widen access to the mastering process was iZotope’s Ozone and, while there are now plenty of alternatives (and some mostly automated options that are available online), Ozone remains one of the most widely used options for DIY mastering.
Ozone offers a powerful suite of processing options and, from a technical perspective, it’s more than capable of undertaking even the most challenging of mastering tasks. However, in more recent releases, iZotope have tried to accommodate the needs of less experienced user via the Mastering Assistant feature set.
